Our Story

Hi, my name is Swati Chaturvedi and I created CBDP in 2009 as a means for community outreach; to bring light and joy through the power of connection, dance, and storytelling. Showcasing Indian culture while celebrating diversity, I use Bollywood Dancing as a vehicle to bring people together.

CBDP offers Bollywood dance instruction, custom workshops, school assemblies & residencies, and community programs in the greater Philadelphia region, for all ages and abilities.

My daughter inspired this Bollywood dance journey. Starting out with dance instruction, I executed the vision for broader community engagement at a fundraiser for In The Company of Horses, a therapeutic horseback riding program. Forty-four individuals and four horses participated in the Bollywood dance routine she choreographed. These individuals included staff, volunteers, parents, and the students with special needs. You can read about it here: The First Community Project! “Mauja hi Mauja!”.

This is how the Community Bollywood Dance Project was born in 2009! Since then thousands of individuals have danced with CBDP. I hope you will too!

Love,
Swati
